Kyrgyz FM, EU Special Rep of Central Asia discuss topical issues of expanding co-op

Bishkek, Feb . 24, 2022 . / Kabar / . Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev with Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia Terhi Hakala.

The press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported that during the conversation the sides confirmed their mutual willingness to further expand partnership and cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union.

They discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in various areas, including project cooperation and joint initiatives. Agreements were reached on practical steps to organize events at the level of Kyrgyzstan-EU and the EU-CA. Particular attention was paid to the preparation of the visit at the highest level and the signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.

The sides also exchanged views on the international agenda, including the situation around Ukraine, developments in Kazakhstan and other political and security issues in the region.

Kazakbaev informed Hakala about the statement of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov on the situation around Ukraine, which notes the need to resolve emerging situations peacefully, diplomatically.

It was noted that in view of today's events, Kyrgyzstan is in favor of rapid de-escalation, the resumption of the search for a peaceful settlement of the conflict and the need to resolve the conflict situation exclusively by political and diplomatic means at the negotiating table.
