Kyrgyz FM invites OSCE secretary general to visit Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Sept. 23, 2022 / Kabar /. On the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, a bilateral meeting was held in New York,, between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev and the OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the sides discussed the interaction between Kyrgyzstan and the OSCE, as well as the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border due to armed aggression by Tajikistan on September 14-16 this year.

Kulubaev brought to the attention of the OSCE Secretary General information about the current situation, numerous human casualties, including children, and the emergency evacuation of more than 140,000 civilians from the border conflict zone, as well as significant material damage to civilian objects and infrastructure.

Regarding the interaction between Kyrgyzstan and the OSCE, the sides expressed satisfaction with the achieved level of cooperation, which turns 30 this year. The Kyrgyz minister expressed gratitude to the OSCE for supporting democratic processes, strengthening the stability and security of the country. He noted the relevance of the ongoing OSCE projects in such priority areas for the country as the fight against corruption and organized crime, digitalization and good governance, reform of the judiciary and law enforcement systems.

Further support was also expressed for the activities of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, the expansion of its educational and research potential.

At the end of the meeting, Kulubaev invited Secretary General H. Schmid to pay a visit to Kyrgyzstan in the near future.
