Kyrgyz FM meets with UN Assistant Secretary General

Bishkek, June 21, 2021. / Kabar /. During the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev received UN Assistant Secretary General Miroslav Jencha ​​at his request.

The main topic of the conversation was the settlement of the conflict at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, peacebuilding and interaction of the Kyrgyz Republic with the UN, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Kazakbaev reported on the results of the parliamentary elections, the extension of the term of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic for one year, the formation of a new Cabinet of Ministers, the election of a new President of the state and the Constitution.

He informed in detail about the situation in the south of Kyrgyzstan, especially focused on the fact that the Kyrgyz Republic intends and is ready to resolve this issue with Tajikistan only by political and diplomatic means. He noted that the two states and two peoples are linked by historical bonds of friendship and mutual understanding, that the Kyrgyz Republic will remain committed to its obligations under all the Agreements signed with Tajikistan, readiness to intensify and continue work within the framework of the relevant intergovernmental commission.

He reported on the human and material losses of the Kyrgyz side during the conflict. It was noted that the Kyrgyz side carries out all the restoration work at its own expense. The situation in the south is generally stable, but remains tense.

Jencha informed that UN Secretary General Guterres signed a response to Kyrgyz President Zhaparov on the support of Kyrgyzstan by the Peacebuilding Fund. For the next five years, it is planned to allocate funds in two phases in the amount of 10 to 15 million dollars. He also noted the readiness of the UN to assist in adapting the decrees and provisions of Kyrgyzstan in the new Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The sides discussed a number of issues on the restoration of the socio-economic infrastructure, the humanitarian situation in the south of the Kyrgyz Republic, the participation of UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic in this activity.

Miroslav Jencha informed about the UN's readiness to provide assistance to the Kyrgyz Republic on many priority issues, to work out new projects necessary for the south of the Kyrgyz Republic and to provide expert assessment and advice for the use of new recovery mechanisms.
