Kyrgyz FM pays first official visit to Lithuania since the establishment of diplomatic relations

Bishkek, Nov. 21, 2018. /Kabar/. Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekova paid the first official visit to Lithuania since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The visit took place on November 21 at the invitation of his Lithuanian counterpart Linas Linkevičius.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers had an exchange of views on a wide range of issues.

The ministers stressed the need to deepen the bilateral political dialogue by organizing reciprocal visits at the highest and high levels, reaffirming the desire to further intensify relations, including those in economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The foreign ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Lithuania signed an agreement on economic cooperation between the governments of the two countries with a view to build up mutually beneficial economic cooperation.

Under this document, an intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Lithuanian commission on economic cooperation consisting of representatives of the parties will be created in order to prepare proposals for improving trade and economic cooperation of both states and further development prospects. Representatives of the business community may also be invited to participate in the activities of the Commission.

An intergovernmental agreement was also signed on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports of Kyrgyzstan when entering Lithuania, which provides for exemption from visa requirements up to 90 days for holders of diplomatic passports of the states parties.

The conclusion of this agreement will contribute to the further development of political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and consular relations.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linkevičius accepted the invitation of Aidarbekov to pay a return official visit to Kyrgyzstan. The dates will be agreed upon additionally.
