Bishkek, Dec. 17, 2020 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ruslan Kazakbaev met on Thursday with British Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Charles Garrett and Charge d'Affaires of France to Kyrgyzstan Francois Delaus.
During the meeting, the sides discussed preparations for the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-26) to be held on Nov. 1-12, 2021 in Glasgow, UK, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry’s press service reported.
Ambassador Garrett informed Ruslan Kazakbaev about the results of the online Climate Ambition Summit, which was held on Dec. 12, 2020 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte, President of Chile Sebastian Pinera and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
In his turn, the Kyrgyz foreign minister briefed Charles Garrett and Charge d'Affaires of France to Kyrgyzstan Francois Delaus on the work carried out in the republic, aimed at the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement ratified by Kygryzstan in November 2019.
Besides, Minister Kazakbaev thanked the British side for support being provided on environmental issues, climate change. In particular, the Kyrgyz side positively noted the proposal of the British side and the UNDP to participate in a regional project aimed at assisting Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to strengthen climate policy and action ahead of COP26.
