Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2021. / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev took part in the work of the 25th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization for Economic Cooperation (ECO) member-states, which took place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan said that during the meeting, the ministers of foreign affairs of the ECO member states discussed issues of enhancing regional cooperation in priority areas, increasing the efficiency of interaction within the ECO and the activities of the Organization itself, taking into account the interests of all ECO member states.
In his speech, Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev focused the attention of the participants on strengthening cooperation between the member states in the field of green economy, trade and investment, transport logistics, energy, healthcare, tourism, ecology and climate.
Along with this, during the ECO Ministerial Council, Minister Kazakbaev, stressing the importance and readiness of the Kyrgyz Republic to contribute to the practical implementation of the conceptual document "ECO Vision until 2025", adopted within the ECO:
- highlighted the extreme importance of the climate agenda and the development of a green economy in the global agenda of the world community;
- urged the ECO Foreign Ministers to instruct the ECO Secretariat to focus on the transport and logistics component as a key factor in ensuring an increase in trade between ECO member states and taking into account the importance of the development of electronic commerce, which has become a global trend in the light of the lessons learned from the pandemic and the development of digital technologies, to consider the issue of enhancing cooperation between postal operators of the ECO countries in order to ensure the growth of e-commerce within the ECO;
- recommended that the ECO Secretariat make joint efforts to develop a Roadmap for the coming years with concrete, feasible and effective measures aimed at obtaining practical benefits for countries from ECO membership, highlighting the existing untapped potential of ECO as a promising, regional organization.
Within the framework of the Ministerial Council meeting, the "Ashgabat Consensus of Action" was approved, developed by the ECO member states in order to achieve sustainable economic development of the member states and the region as a whole.
In addition, the sides spoke in favor of improving the activities of the ECO, and also considered the financial and personnel issues of the ECO and the report of the ECO Secretary General.
The meeting of the 25th Meeting of ECO Foreign Ministers was chaired by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.
ECO was founded in 1985 and is the legal successor of the Organization for Regional Cooperation and Development. ECO operates on the basis of the Charter - the Izmir Treaty, signed by the three founding countries - the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of Turkey in March 1977.
Until the beginning of 1992, cooperation within the ECO was predominantly bilateral. Since 1992, the activities of the Organization have significantly intensified in connection with the accession of 7 new states - Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The official language of ECO is English.
The ECO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting was held on the eve of the 15th Summit of the ECO Heads of State, which is scheduled to be held on the day of ECO formation - November 28, 2021 in Ashgabat.
