Kyrgyz Foreign Minister and Secretary General of Energy Charter discuss cooperation in renewable energy sources

Bishkek, May 16, 2019. /Kabar/. The meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov with Secretary General of the Energy Charter Urban Rusnak, who arrived in the Kyrgyz Republic for a working visit, took place on May 15 in Bishkek.

In the course of the meeting held on Dec. 9, 2018 in Brussels, Rusnac informed about the ongoing work on the modernization of the organization’s activities in the context of changing global energy relations, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Aidarbekov expressed interest in studying the best practices in energy sector reform, market development, introduction of energy efficient technologies and alternative energy sources. The minister noted that the development of hydropower is one of the priorities of sustainable development of the Kyrgyz Republic.

As a promising area of cooperation, the sides identified the development of renewable energy sources in the Kyrgyz Republic, improvement of energy efficiency and introduction of energy-saving measures.

The Energy Charter is an intergovernmental agreement involving more than 50 member countries. The main objectives of the Charter are to enhance energy security, promote energy efficiency, minimise environmental damage, develop efficient energy markets, and create a favourable investment climate.

The Kyrgyz Republic is a full member of the Energy Charter process.
