Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry finds out details of detaining two Kyrgyz citizens in US for smuggling weapons

Bishkek, March 1, 2018 / Kabar /. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan is investigating the details of detention of two Kyrgyz citizens in the United States for smuggling weapons into Chechnya (Russia), the press service of the MFA told Kabar News Agency.

The American edition of WJLA published material that two Kyrgyz citizens, 28-year-old Tengiz Sydykov and 27-year-old Eldar Rezvanov, who lived in Washington State were detained on suspicion of international trade in firearms, smuggling and other offenses.

A criminal complaint says the residents of Alexandria, Virginia, purchased more than 100 disassembled firearms and tried to ship them to Chechnya without a license, using false shipping inventories and disguising the parts as kitchen utensils and car seat covers. Postal employees told investigators that accomplices sent parcels almost daily.

Each of them faces up to 20 years in prison.
