Bishkek, Dec. 23, 2020 / Kabar /. Acting Prime Minister, First Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Artem Novikov, during a working trip to Issyk-Kul Oblast got acquainted with the state of wastewater treatment facilities in Cholpon-Ata city, the press service of the Kyrgyz government reported.
Today the city is provided with a system of treatment facilities only by 40%. At the same time, about 200 thousand people visit the city during the summer tourist season.
The issue of construction of new treatment facilities and replacement of necessary equipment is acute in Issyk-Kul Oblast.
Artem Novikov noted that this issue is extremely important for ensuring the ecological safety of the region and preserving the biosphere territory of Issyk-Kul Lake.
“In the cities of Karakol and Balykchy, projects for the rehabilitation of treatment facilities are already being implemented. In turn, the project for the rehabilitation of treatment facilities in the city of Cholpon-Ata was approved by the Council for Fiscal and Investment Policy under the Government on December 16 of this year. The project cost is USD 32.4 million, of which 13.5 million are grant funds, 13.5 million are loan funds and 5.4 million are budget funds. I want to note that the project will be implemented in the very near future. The Mayor's Office of Cholpon-Ata was instructed to carry out all the necessary financial, economic and technical calculations until April 2021 to accelerate the launch of the project and start its practical implementation,” said Artem Novikov.
