Bishkek, March 18, 2021 / Kabar /. The Government imposed a ban on the export of sugar and vegetable oil, Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Regional Development Askarbek Dzhanybekov said during a briefing at the Government House.
He said that according to data for 2020, 56% of sugar is produced by domestic companies, the remaining 44% is imported from neighboring countries. In this regard, due to rising sugar prices in Russia, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, there is also a tendency of rising prices of socially important food products in the Kyrgyz Republic.
"Currently, in order to prevent a shortage of essential products in the country and reduce the price of them, Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ulukbek Maripov signed a decree, according to which the export of sugar and vegetable oil from the country is prohibited,” the minister added.
To date, there is no shortage of staple foods, and these measures are forced and temporary.
