Bishkek, May 21, 2020 / Kabar/. The Kyrgyz government is in talks with the Russian side to lower the selling price of natural gas, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Erkin Asrandiev told.
“Today, the global economic crisis, associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, has had a significant impact on our economy. Along with this, the rate of the national currency against the US dollar also decreased. All this led to the suspension of most of the economic activity. The purchasing power of the population has also decreased. Therefore, we are now actively negotiating with Russia to reduce the selling price of natural gas and switch to payment in national currency. For us, this issue is very sensitive,” said the deputy prime minister, the press service of the government said.
Erkin Asrandiev recalled that the regulation of natural gas prices today is based on a bilateral agreement with Russia.
