Kyrgyz Health Ministry on COVID-19 situation among children

Bishkek, Feb. 11, 2021. / Kabar /. A total of 2,464 school-age children and 1,432 pre-school children have been infected with COVID-19 in Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the republic's Ministry of Health and Social Development said.

According to the Department of Disease Prevention and the Center for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance, despite the decrease in the incidence of COVID-19 across the country compared to previous months (November - 212.7, December - 123.6, January - 53.2 per 100 thousand people), cases of coronavirus infection are being detected among population.

The country registered a total of 85,328 COVID-19 cases since the first case was identified on March 18.

Of these, 2,464 cases (2.9%) were revealed among school-age children (including those studying remotely) and 1,432 cases (1.7%) - among preschool age children.

Since the beginning of the educational process, the largest number of COVID-19 cases (320) among school-age children was registered in November.

In most cases, the disease in children has a mild form and resembles the usual SARS, which manifests as the following clinical signs: a slight increase in body temperature, runny nose, sore throat, cough, general weakness.

"It also happens that in the presence of infection, there are no signs of coronavirus in children at all. However, some children, even if they have had a mild form, can have serious complications in the form of a multiviral syndrome with damage to many systems," the report said.
