Bishkek, Nov. 26, 2024. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a briefing for ambassadors of foreign states accredited in Kyrgyzstan regarding the country's priorities for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for the period 2027-2028.
The Foreign Ministry reported that during the briefing, the Kyrgyz side informed about the vision of Kyrgyzstan as a candidate for the UN Security Council for the period 2027-2028, as well as what the country's membership will focus on if elected.
In particular, it was noted that the Kyrgyz Republic intends to pay special attention to strengthening trust and cooperation among Council members, increasing the effectiveness of peacebuilding, enhancing the role of women, strengthening UN peacekeeping, promoting the mountain agenda, the effectiveness of the multilateral system, and raising awareness of disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Kyrgyzstan, reaffirming its commitment to global peace and security, and in order to contribute to international efforts to maintain peace, sustainable development and address contemporary global challenges, has put forward its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. In addition, the Kyrgyz side expressed hope that UN member states will trust our country and support it in the elections in June 2026.
During the briefing, foreign ambassadors shared their impressions and ideas, noted the important role of the UN Security Council in maintaining peace and security, and wished Kyrgyzstan good luck in the elections in June 2026. As part of the election campaign, the Ministry will continue to hold briefings and other events to promote the candidacy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
