Kyrgyz minister takes part in meeting of SCO transport ministers in Uzbekistan

Bishkek, May 14, 2022 / Kabar /. Minister of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan Erkinbek Osoev took part in the 9th Meeting of Ministers of Transport of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, which was held on May 11-12, 2022, in Khiva, Uzbekistan, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The ministers of transport of Russia, China, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and India also took part in the meeting chaired by the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Makhkamov.

During the meeting, the participants supported the draft Concept of Cooperation between the SCO Member States on the Development of Interconnection and the Creation of Efficient Transport Corridors, agreed by the parties, according to which the sides will carry out the internal procedures necessary for its approval within the Council of Heads of State of the SCO member states on Sept. 16, 2022 in Samarkand.

Also, following the results of the meeting, it was decided to approve for further approval by the experts of the SCO member states the drafts of the Framework Agreement between the governments of the SCO member states on the formation of an integrated transportation management system, the Memorandum of Cooperation of the SCO member states to ensure the stable operation of transport in emergency situations of an intercountry nature , the Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of Highways of the SCO Member States and the Program for the Development of Highways of the SCO Member States.

Additionally, in order to promote the agreements reached, the parties will create a Special Working Group to develop cooperation in the field of transport of the SCO member states.

Along with this, within the framework of the Meeting of Ministers of Transport of the SCO Member States, a meeting was held between Minister of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan Osoev and Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Makhkamov. The sides discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, including further steps to implement the agreements reached as a result of a joint trip to the Osh-Sary-Tash-Irkeshtam and Uch-Korgon-Daroot-Korgon highways to identify and eliminate obstacles and difficulties in the implementation of cargo transportation by road, and subsequent measures aimed at their solution.

In addition, the sides agreed to intensify further work and the negotiation process with the Chinese side on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project, including the early preparation of a feasibility study for the project.
