Bishkek, Nov. 20, 2018. /Kabar/. The Kyrgyz Ministry of Labor and Social Development and the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) will continue fruitful cooperation in providing support to citizens in need as part of the 5-year Country Strategic Plan. This was discussed by Minister of Labor and Social Development Ulukbek Kochkorov and Country Director of UN WFP Andrea Bagnoli, the press service of the ministry reported.
WFP representative Andrea Bagnoli told that the budget for implementing activities under the 5-year Country Plan is about $ 60 million. The funds are intended for the implementation of projects for the technical equipment of rural schools, development of rural and agricultural infrastructure and reduction of the impact of natural disasters. Special attention will be paid to the development of irrigation networks, production and processing of agricultural products, prevention of landslides and mudflows, as well as training of the working-age population in professional skills in various areas and organization of income-generating activities for poor families.
It was also noted that the Country Strategic Plan is aimed achieving by 2022 such tasks as providing all elementary school children of Kyrgyzstan with quality school meals and improving the living conditions of more than 100,000 poor families, especially women, through a tool of social support “food aid - active measures social of support for low-income families,” given their increased resilience to climate change and natural disasters.
The WFP Country Strategic Plan was developed in close cooperation with the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, development partners, national institutions and the local community.
