Bishkek, Jan. 22, 2019. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United Nations World Food Programme (UN WFP) have summed up the results of joint projects for 2018 in Osh oblast, the press service of the Ministry of Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
Ulukbek Kochkorov, Minister of Labor and Social Development, noted that within the framework of cooperation, active measures are being implemented to support low-income families.
Over the past year, over 350 projects have been implemented in Osh oblast, in which about 7,000 low-income families received food support in the form of fortified flour and seed oil, the total volume of which was more than 2,000 tons. 1120 low-income households received financial assistance for work on infrastructure rehabilitation and vocational training. In total, more than 42,000 people from the most vulnerable segments of the population of Osh oblast were covered by food aid through joint projects of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development and WFP.
The site projects carried out in Osh oblast included repair and construction of irrigation systems, strengthening of river banks, construction and restoration of bridges and roads within villages, vocational training courses, and development of vegetable growing and handicrafts. In addition, 4 mini-workshops for the processing and production of agricultural products have been opened in Osh oblast - the production of dairy products, dried fruits, canned fruits and vegetables, wool processing.
During the working visit to Osh oblast, the Minister of Labor and Social Development Kochkorov and the Country Director of the UN WFP, Andrea Bagnoli, visited the first wool processing workshop in the region, launched at Mirmammudov. The production capacity of the new workshop is processing up to 40 thousand kg of wool per year. Now experienced technologists teach residents how to process wool and procure raw materials for the production of various products, mainly solid wool. Production in the mini-workshop will be almost waste-free, as previously unused hair from combed and washed wool can be directed to the weatherization of the walls of houses and outbuildings.
In addition, partners got familiarized with a disaster risk reduction project in Kok-Bel. Within the framework of the project, 9,000 fruit trees — apple trees and apricots — were planted in an area of 21 hectares to strengthen the soil from landslides. In addition, UN WFP and the Minister of Labor and Social Development conducted training on agroforestry and reforestation to villagers.
