Kyrgyz MP and PACE member discuss prospects for cooperation with Europe

Bishkek, March 24, 2022 / Kabar /. Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration of the Kyrgyz Parliament Chingiz Aidarbekov met with member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), expert speaker of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, member of the National Assembly of France Jacques Maire.

According to the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh, the sides discussed topical areas of cooperation, paying special attention to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation. In addition, an exchange of views took place on issues of increasing the potential of the parliamentary dimension.

There was also a discussion of the prospects for cooperation within the framework of the status “Partner for Democracy” received in 2014 by the Jogorku Kenesh. Interest was expressed in further using the experience of the Assembly in institutional and legislative work.

“We are committed to our international obligations, fundamental human rights and freedoms, and the rule of law. The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov, in his message to the people during the meeting of the UN General Assembly in September 2021, repeatedly noted that Kyrgyzstan would not deviate from the path of democracy. The Parliament remains a key body in the political system of the country, which ensures the balance of the division of power to build an economically stable and stable state, as well as ensuring human rights and freedoms, the rule of law, social justice, tolerance and pluralism of opinions,” the chairman of the committee emphasized.

In turn, a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, an expert-rapporteur of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, Jacques Maire, stressed that PACE is interested in the comprehensive development and expansion of partnership with the Kyrgyz Republic.

At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed mutual interest in deepening cooperation within the framework of the PACE Partner for Democracy status.
