Bishkek, Oct. 19, 2022. /Kabar/. The delegation of the Kyrgyz Parliament took part in the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg.
The delegation includes Parliament member Dinara Ashimova, head of the department of international cooperation and protocol of the Jogorku Kenesh Apparatus Chyngyz Yunusov.
During the PACE session, MP Ashimova in her speech paid special attention to the clashes on September 14-17 on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as a result of which 63 people were killed from the Kyrgyz side and hundreds of civilians were injured.
The MP called for an embargo on the sale of weapons and ammunition to the Tajik side. “It is unacceptable to sell weapons and ammunition to the Tajik side, which used previously received weapons during the recent armed invasion of Kyrgyzstan, which led to numerous casualties and infrastructure damage (in the Batken region),” Ashimova said, calling on the international community to condemn the act of aggression by Tajikistan in relation to Kyrgyzstan, its encroachment on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Kyrgyzstan.
Following the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a collective statement was adopted calling for a de-escalation of tensions between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The statement was signed by 25 PACE deputies from Germany, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Croatia, Cyprus, Slovenia and Ireland.
The statement emphasized that the PACE deputies welcome the commitment of the Kyrgyz Republic to common values as a partner for democracy in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and call on Tajikistan to follow the example of Kyrgyzstan.
The PACE deputies in their statement recalled the need to comply with the obligations under the OSCE Helsinki Final Act, including the effective implementation of the ceasefire, respect for territorial integrity, the inviolability of existing borders, refraining from the use of force, preventing the loss of lives and the speedy de-escalation of tension.
