Bishkek, Oct. 2, 2024. /Kabar/. On October 1, Member of the Jogorku Kenesh Chingiz Aidarbekov met with UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities Heba Hagrass, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.
During the meeting, Chingiz Aidarbekov briefly touched upon the work of the Jogorku Kenesh in the field of protecting the rights of people with disabilities, recalling that Kyrgyzstan ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2019. Chingiz Aidarbekov also emphasized that a working group has been created in the Jogorku Kenesh to monitor the implementation of legislation on the implementation of the SDGs in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The SDGs objectives address issues related to inclusive development, protection of the rights and interests of persons with disabilities. Chingiz Aidarbekov expressed his readiness to join the initiative group to develop a draft law on the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, informing about the activities of the Working Group on Monitoring the Implementation of Legislation on the Implementation of the SDGs in the Kyrgyz Republic.
UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities Heba Hagrass indicated that during her visit to Kyrgyzstan she plans to hold a series of meetings with government officials, people with disabilities and organizations representing their interests, relevant international agencies and donors to assess the situation of people with disabilities. Heba Hagrass noted that she will present a report on her visit to Kyrgyzstan during the next session of the Human Rights Council in 2025.
The parties discussed issues in the field of protecting the rights of people with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan, their social adaptation in accordance with established international norms and standards.
