Bishkek, Feb. 27, 2019. / Kabar /. At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the deputies considered the draft law “On giving the national headwear Ak Kalpak the status of a cultural symbol” in the first reading.
The initiators of the bill are MPs Ekmat Baibakpayev and Bakirdin Subanbekov.
According to the document, the draft law is aimed at improving the image of ak kalpak as an essential element of the cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people, establishing the legal basis for its protection, support and development, popularizing kalpak and creating conditions for the formation of ak kalpak as a cultural symbol of the republic.
“The bill also aims to raise awareness of the Kyrgyz Republic and the people of Kyrgyzstan through the preservation of the historical heritage and culture of wearing ak kalpak,” said Baibakpayev.
Deputy Torobay Zulpukarov spoke in support of the bill and proposed the inclusion of a female headdress of Elechek. Deputy Elvra Surabaldiyeva agreed on the need to adhere to gender equality.
The bill was approved in the first reading.
