Kyrgyz ombudsman and US ambassador discuss situation on observance of human rights in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Aug. 11, 2023. /Kabar/. Ombudswoman (Akyikatchy) of Kyrgyzstan Jamilya Jamanbaeva and US Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Leslie Viguerie held a meeting.

The sides discussed the situation on observance of human rights in Kyrgyzstan.

Jamanbaeva noted the contribution of the US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, as well as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to the promotion of fundamental values of human rights, democracy, the rule of law and civil society in Kyrgyzstan.

“As part of cooperation with USAID, a number of extremely important projects have been implemented that are necessary to promote high standards of human rights and freedoms, including Zhigerduu Zharandar and Ukuk Bulagy,” the ombudswoman said.

The US ambassador expressed his opinion on the importance of respecting the freedom of activities of non-profit organizations in Kyrgyzstan.

In addition, the sides agreed on the need to take a set of measures aimed at improving the situation of human rights and freedoms in Kyrgyzstan.
