Kyrgyz Parliament approves agreement on construction of Kyrgyz-Chinese friendship bridge

Bishkek, Jan.21, 2025. /Kabar/. The Committee on Transport, Communications, Architecture and Construction of the Jogorku Kenesh approved the draft law on ratification of the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and the Government of China on the construction of the Kyrgyz-Chinese Friendship Bridge.

The agreement was signed on Sept. 26, 2024 in Beijing, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.

Information on the bill was presented by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Talantbek Soltobaev.

He noted that the Agreement provides for the construction of a 187-meter long bridge at the Irkeshtam border point located on the Osh-Sary-Tash-Irkeshtam highway in Alay region of Osh Oblast. The bridge will be built by the Chinese side and upon completion of construction, all works performed on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic will be handed over to the Kyrgyz side.

“Ratification of the Agreement will create conditions for the development of trade and economic relations between China and Kyrgyzstan, meeting the growing demand for passenger and cargo transportation between the two countries,” the rapporteur said.

During the discussion, MP Iskhak Masaliev was interested in the total amount of the project, as well as the timeframe for completion of construction.

To which Deputy Minister Soltobaev responded that it is planned to put the facility into operation in spring of this year. “The amount of the project is 120 million Chinese yuan,” he said.
