Kyrgyz Parliament approves bill on holding referendum on new Constitution on April 11

Bishkek, March 11, 2021 / Kabar /. Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh approved the draft law on conducting a referendum (nationwide vote) on the draft Law of the Kyrgyz Republic“ On the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic ”. According to the bill, it is proposed to hold a referendum on April 11 this year.

Today parliamentarians approved the draft law in the second and third readings at once.

A total of 100 deputies attended the meeting, of which 94 parliamentarians voted for and 6 against.

It should be noted that elections to local councils are also scheduled for April 11.

The main difference in the new draft Constitution is that it is proposed to switch to a presidential form of government. It is also proposed to reduce the number of deputies from 120 to 90.
