Kyrgyz Parliament deprives Atambayev of his ex-president status

Bishkek, June 27, 2019. /Kabar/. The Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) has decided to lift the immunity of former President Almazbek Atambayev.

A total of 109 members of Parliament voted. 103 of them for and 6- against.

This decision has been sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Earlier, a special deputy commission was set up to study the accusations against Atambayev voiced by deputies. As a result of the work, the commission decided to charge the former president with 6 episodes.

However, the Prosecutor General's Office, giving a legal assessment of the commission's work, supported five of them: illegal transformation and acquisition of land in Koi-Tash village, illegal release of kingpin Aziz Batukayev, an episode of fictitious sale of the Forum building Subikhi Parhati, corruption in the reconstruction of thermal power plant in Bishkek, purchase of coal at the same power plant.
