Bishkek, March 10, 2020. / Kabar /. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Dastanbek Dzhumabekov met with Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Said Kharazi.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for the further development of bilateral political, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, exchanged views on expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Dzhumabekov congratulated Said Kharazi on the start of his diplomatic mission in Kyrgyzstan and wished him success in implementing the plans, and also expressed confidence that his professionalism and experience will help strengthen multifaceted ties between the two states.
The speaker stated readiness to expand Kyrgyz-Iranian trade and economic relations, pointing out the great potential for cooperation in this direction. “At present, the trade between Kyrgyzstan and Iran makes 30 million, but this figure does not express our economic opportunities. I think we should find a joint formula to increase trade,” said Dzhumabekov.
Dastanbek Dzhumabekov added that Kyrgyzstan is interested in attracting Iranian investments in the republic’s hydropower industry, as well as in the exchange of knowledge in the field of construction of small and medium-sized hydropower plants.
In addition, Speaker Dzhumabekov invited the Iranian Parliament for official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, emphasizing that the exchange of visits is an important element in the development of relations between the two countries. Speaking about the need to ensure unhindered passage for the return of Kyrgyz trucks that are idle on the border with Iran, the speaker urged the ambassador to assist in resolving this issue, and also wished for a speedy recovery and overcoming the consequences caused by the outbreak of coronavirus.
In turn, Said Kharazi outlined the reciprocity of intentions to expand Kyrgyz-Iranian cooperation and expressed gratitude to the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh for the warm welcome. “At present, relations with Kyrgyzstan are at a very high level, which was facilitated by the intensification of bilateral visits, the constant exchange of delegations at various levels. So, for example, over the past 3 years, the Iranian President visited Kyrgyzstan three times. Also in 2017 in Tehran, 12 meetings of the intergovernmental commission were held under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Parliament speaker,” said Said Kharazi.
In general, the sides discussed pressing issues of the international and regional agenda, and also reaffirmed their mutual disposition to further develop bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Iran.
