Kyrgyz Parliament speaker and US senator discuss expanding political and economic partnership between two countries

Bishkek, Aug. 21, 2023 / Kabar /. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Shakiev met with United States Senator Gary Peters in Bishkek.

The issues of expanding the political and economic partnership between Kyrgyzstan and the United States, the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed at the meeting.

Shakiev noted that the Jogorku Kenesh is interested in building up comprehensive relations with the US Congress. “I am sure that your visit will further strengthen relations and cooperation between parliaments,” he said, emphasizing the great contribution of parliaments to the development of interstate relations.

Along with this, he indicated that the promotion of trade and economic ties is a priority. He also spoke about the need to expand cooperation in the field of education. “Our citizens, especially young people, are striving to get an education in the leading educational institutions of the United States. In this light, it is necessary to pay attention to the issues of creating appropriate opportunities, including facilitating the conditions for obtaining a visa,” the speaker added.

In turn, US Senator Gary Peters thanked Nurlanbek Shakiev for the warm welcome. He also stressed that his visit to the countries of Central Asia to discuss interstate relations and cooperation between parliaments began with Kyrgyzstan.

“The US is always interested in developing relations with Kyrgyzstan. All the proposals made at our meeting are very important for us,” the senator stressed.
