Within a Solemn Meeting of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS), dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the organization, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan Talant Mamytov met in Almaty with Chairman of the Kazakh Senate Maulen Ashimbayev.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the development of political-economic and cultural-humanitarian relations between the two countries, as well as expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Talant Mamytov noted the high level of cooperation between the two brotherly peoples in all directions.
Mamytov congratulated his counterpart on the milestone event in the history of Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations - the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
"In this regard, numerous bilateral events at high and the highest levels are planned for this year, one of the main ones being the visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Kyrgyzstan in May 2022. I am confident that this visit will give an additional impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation," the Kyrgyz speaker emphasized.
He also invited Maulen Ashimbayev to visit Kyrgyzstan for an official visit.
Referring to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, Mamytov elaborated on the interaction between the parliaments of the two countries within the IPA CIS, CSTO, TurkPA, etc.
The Kyrgyz speaker also noted with satisfaction that the volume of goods turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in 2021 amounted to $ 1 billion and the growth in mutual trade was about 35%.
Mamytov expressed hope for the implementation of agreements on the unimpeded movement of trucks.
In addition, the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh suggested that the Kazakh side should consider opening the land borders of Kazakhstan for citizens and cars of the Kyrgyz Republic, taking into account that since May 2020 the land border of Kyrgyzstan is open to citizens of Kazakhstan.
Mamytov proposed to establish twinning relations between cities of the two countries - Osh and Almaty, which are the southern capitals of the two republics.
In turn, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev congratulated Mamytov on his re-election as the Jogorku Kenesh Speaker, and expressed support for all the proposals made and accepted the invitation of Mamytov.
Ashimbayev noted the important role of inter-parliamentary relations in the development of cooperation between the two countries, including within the IPA CIS, which has become a successful platform for dialogue.
