Bishkek, March 7, 2024. /Kabar/. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Shakiev in London met with Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Lindsay Harvey Hoyle.
During the meeting, issues of increasing political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries and expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed.
Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev emphasized that strengthening comprehensive relations with Great Britain is a priority in Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy.
“The UK’s experience in the field of parliamentarism is an excellent example for the Jogorku Kenesh and we are interested in close cooperation with you as the main branch of government of the country committed to democratic values. In recent years, mutual visits between our deputies have intensified. I am confident that this historic visit of our parliamentary delegation will contribute to the further development of cooperation,” said Nurlanbek Shakiev.
Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Harvey Hoyle expressed the same opinion, adding that this meeting is the beginning of fruitful cooperation. “Your official visit is very important for us,” he said.
At the same time, he highly appreciated the activities of Kyrgyzstanis involved in the agricultural sector of Great Britain and expressed gratitude on behalf of his country.
The speaker of the House of Commons also outlined the great potential for the development of bilateral cooperation. “We can achieve significant results by implementing joint projects in the fields of education, agriculture, mining and processing, strengthening trade and economic relations,” said Lindsay Harvey Hoyle.
In addition, Lindsay Harvey Hoyle drew attention to the successful visit to Kyrgyzstan of Chairwoman of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee Alicia Kearns. “As a result of the visit, Mrs. Alicia Kearns assessed Kyrgyzstan as the most democratic country in Central Asia and outlined the need to deepen cooperation,” he said.
The speaker of the House of Commons, speaking about the current situation in the world, expressed confidence that Kyrgyzstan will contribute to the protection of stability and peace.
Nurlanbek Shakiev also noted that he witnessed the good conditions created for the work of citizens of Kyrgyzstan in the UK, and thanked for the support provided in this direction.
In addition, the parties exchanged views on issues of expanding investment cooperation.
Speaker Shakiev stated that Kyrgyzstan has great potential in the field of hydropower and mining.
“In recent years, major reforms have been implemented and the fight against corruption has intensified. A lot of work has also been done to improve conditions for investors,” he emphasized, inviting British investors to do business in Kyrgyzstan.
Lindsay Harvey Hoyle noted that he would take into account all the proposals voiced during the meeting and that they would be worked out by the relevant committees. In particular, he proposed to consider the possibility of using modern technologies that do not harm the environment at production enterprises in Kyrgyzstan.
