Kyrgyz Patent registers 805 trademarks in 2019

Bishkek, 29.01.20. /Кабар/. The State Service of the Intellectual Property and Innovation under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyz Patent) hosted an extended meeting of the Service’s Board.

The meeting was chaired by Head of the Service Dinara Moldosheva, the press service of the Kyrgyz Patent reported.

In their reports, heads of structural units of Kyrgyz Patent presented information to the Board members on the work done on the results of activities for 2019.

The meeting participants considered the issues of collection and reduction of accounts receivable for copyright remuneration, analysis of received applications for inventions, trademarks and other intellectual property objects.

In 2019, 805 trademarks were registered, which is the highest number of registrations in the last five years, the share of trademarks in the total number of registrations for the year is more than 61%.

Traditional knowledge registrations continue to grow steadily and rapidly. Last year, the registration of traditional knowledge increased almost three times.

During the Board’s meeting, Chairwoman Dinara Moldosheva emphasized the need to increase the number of applications and improve the quality of public services.

She reminded the responsibility and demand for the quality of expertise in the provision of legal protection of intellectual property objects, and called for the aspiration to increase the level of protection of intellectual property rights.

One of the tools to stabilize and develop the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic is the intensification of innovation activities with the widespread use of intellectual property.

According to the results of 2019, Kyrgyzstan took 90th place (28.38 points) in the global innovation index, which is four points higher than in 2018. The annual ranking of 129 countries from around the world was made by INSEAD International Business School at Cornell University.

In order to increase the activity of citizens in the field of inventive and innovative activity, to form an entrepreneurial environment in the field of innovation, to promote the development of the startup ecosystem in the Kyrgyz Republic, it was decided to hold "Startup Kyrgyzstan" youth contest.

An announcement about the contest was posted in August 2019 on the Kyrgyz Patent website and other social networks. At present, more than 150 applications have been received, and the deadline for receiving them is Feb.1, 2020.

At the end of the Board meeting, following protocol tasks were adopted: to strengthen the work on digitalization, in particular, the implementation of work on Hypergraph (collection and distribution of copyright), in turn, to take control of the increase in applications in electronic format, to introduce into practice the consideration of cases on jurisprudence in the field of intellectual property, to conduct systematic work to prevent corrupt practices, to pay attention to improving human resources.

At the same time, to accelerate the work on creation of the Innovation Center, to implement complex tasks of the Service on innovation development.
