Kyrgyz PM and FAO representative discus prospects of cooperation in agricultural sector

Bishkek, July 13, 2018. / Kabar /. Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkaliy Abylgaziev met today with representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN FAO) Dorji Kin Lai, the Kyrgyz Government’s press service reported.

The prime minister expressed his gratitude to FAO for contribution to the development of domestic agriculture and noted that to date the priority direction of the Government's activity is regional development.

"We have many problems in the regions - social and demographic, as well as related to issues of internal and external migration. We consider their solution through the development of agriculture on the ground. Therefore, I see FAO as a reliable partner in the development of the country's regions," Abylgaziev stressed.

At the same time, the head of government noted that one of the most pressing problems of the agrarian sector is the development of irrigation networks and the increase in exports of agricultural products.

In addition, the prime minister emphasized that another priority direction in the work of the Government is the development of domestic tourism, which should also have a positive impact on improving the social and economic situation of the regions.

FAO representative Dorji Kin Lai noted that within the framework of the Framework Program of Cooperation between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and UN FAO for 2018-2022, the main activities of the Organization are ensuring food security, reducing poverty in rural areas and sustainable management of natural resources.

He also said about the readiness to assist in developing the regions of the country, through the support of farms in the regions. According to the representative of FAO, Kyrgyzstan is one of the priority countries for the Organization.

In addition, Kin Lai expressed willingness to provide consulting services to improve the skills of farmers in the regions to grow crops.

The sides agreed to continue active cooperation in the implementation of joint activities. The prime minister also instructed the relevant state bodies to consider the possibility of holding a training seminar for farmers with the participation of FAO experts.
