Kyrgyz President about achievements in energy sector

Bishkek, Dec.25, 2019. /Kabar/. At the final conference, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov spoke about achievements in the hydropower sector.

“First phase of reconstruction of Toktogul HPP is completed. When the replacement of hydropower units is fully completed, its capacity will be increased by 240 megawatts. This will be equivalent to the construction of another new hydroelectric power plant.

The reconstruction of the Uch-Korgon HPP has begun with savings of $100 million from the reconstruction of the Toktogul HPP. Repair work is under way at the At-Bashy HPP. Work is under way to commission a second unit at the Kambar-Ata HPP. Talks are under way with potential investors to build a cascade of Upper Naryn cascade of HPPs,” the President said.

Sooronbay Jeenbekov added work has begun on the construction of electric lines under the CASA 1000 project.

“ASCAPC (Automated System for Commercial Accounting of Power Consumption)-meters, or smart meters, are being installed to reduce losses in the industry. Given the risks, smart meters are installed in the private sector of large cities and large industrial enterprises. Their total number exceeded 229 thousand. Next year, all large industrial enterprises and 3-phase subscribers will be provided with smart meters. By the end of 2023, smart meters will be installed in all multi-storey buildings of the republic and in private sector houses in small towns," Jeenbekov added.

The Kyrgyz President’s press conference is taking place at the Ala-Archa state residence in Bishkek.

A total of 188 journalists have been accredited for the event.

Of these, 160 journalists are from 77 national media and 28 journalists - from 15 foreign media, accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Note that this is the second press conference of Sooronbay Jeenbekov as the President.
