Kyrgyz President and Swiss Minister of Finance discuss cooperation issues

Bishkek, July 10 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev received Federal adviser, Minister of Finance of the Swiss Confederation Ueli Maurer, the president’s press service reported.

During the meeting the sides discussed cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland in trade-economic and investment spheres and stressed the importance of continuation of the gradually developing Kyrgyz-Swiss dialogue.

Maurer shared positive impressions about Kyrgyzstan, noted the similarity of the two countries, and spoke in favor of intensifying bilateral cooperation.

In addition, the meeting focused on the problematic issues of cooperation of Kyrgyzstan with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, concerning the allocation of funds to support the country's budget. In particular, concern was expressed over the delay in consideration in the Jogorku Kenesh and the adoption of the law on the introduction of VAT on grain.

Atambayev thanked the Swiss side for supporting reforms in various areas aimed at promoting democracy, especially for helping to improve the electoral process. The head of state noted that thanks to support, Kyrgyzstan managed to conduct clean and transparent parliamentary elections in 2015 using biometric data, which gives the country confidence in the preparation for the forthcoming presidential elections.
