Kyrgyz president honors memory of April Revolution victims

Bishkek, April 7, 2022 . / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov honoured the memory of dead heroes of People's April Revolution.

The event took place on Thursday at the Ata-Beyit National Historical and Memorial Complex.

The president laid flowers at the memorial to the heroes of the April 2010 People's Revolution, after which a memorial prayer was read.

Further, a memorial prayer was read at the grave of outstanding writer Chyngyz Aitmatov.

Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Talant Mamytov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers-Head of the Presidential Administration Akylbek Zhaparov, Chairman of the Supreme Court Zamirbek Bazarbekov, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Emil Oskonbaev, former presidents Roza Otunbaeva and Sooronbay Jeenbekov, as well as State Secretary Suiunbek Kasmambetov, Secretary of the Security Council Marat Imankulov and members of the Cabinet of Ministers took part in the event.

The Day of People's April Revolution is a national holiday in the Kyrgyz Republic on April 7 each year.

About 100 people were killed and many hundreds injured on April 7, 2010 during the unrest and mass anti-government protests in Bishkek against government corruption and increased living expenses, which brought to President Kurmanbek Bakiyev to flee the country.
