Bishkek, April 14, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov took part in the opening of the monument to Bishkek Baatyr, whose name the capital of the country bears.
Speaking at the event the Kyrgyz president said that the Kyrgyz have an ancient saying that the memory of a worthy person, even if he is long gone, will live for a long time.
“Bishkek Baatyr from the Solto tribe was one such person. His name, without fading away, passed through the centuries, became the name of the area in the Chui Valley, and in the twentieth century, the political center of our country was named in his honor,” he said.
Zhaparov also told about formation of the city.
“According to oral and documentary sources, a large mausoleum was erected at the burial site of Bishkek Baatyr, which later received the name Pishpek-Ata Fortress, as people began to settle around it, and as a result of the continuous process of population inflow, a large city was formed here,” he noted.
The president also emphasized Bishkek-baatyr’s bravery and the growing interest in the era of Bishkek Kenen uulu.
“Our historians, scientists and writers are trying to clarify in detail his biography. Fiction and scientific research are published. New versions appear about the origin of his name, which has become one of the directions in the study of the centuries-old history of our city,” he said wishing them success in this endeavor.
President Zhaparov stressed the enormous efforts that are being made to improve the capital.
At the same time he noted the necessity to study the ruins of the ancient city of Zhul, popularly known as the Blacksmith's Fortress, and soon turn it into a historical and cultural corner of Bishkek, which would be admired by the townspeople and tourists.
“Because the remains of the city of Zhul, founded by the ancient Turks and Sogdians, dating back to the fifth or sixth century, are a sacred memory that connects us with ancient cultures, including the Great Silk Road,” the Kyrgyz president said and instructed the mayor of the capital and the minister of culture to pay attention to the historical and cultural monuments of Bishkek.
Bishkek Kenen uulu (Bishkek Baatyr) is a historical person who lived in the 18th century. He headed the national liberation movement against the enemy tribes of the Kyrgyz people.
The Bishkek Baatyr monument is made of bronze, the height of the monument is more than three meters.
