Kyrgyz president takes personal control of investigation into murder of kidnapped girl

Bishkek, April 8, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov on his Facebook page wrote that he took personal control of the investigation into the murder of Aizada Kanatbekova.

The president wrote that he took the news of the abduction and death of Aizada Kanatbekova with great bitterness. “It is unacceptable that in our society there are still such tragedies when girls are forcibly forced to marry. What happened to Aizada is a tragedy and pain not only for her family, but for our entire state,” Zhaparov wrote.

The president stressed that kidnapping of brides, forcible detention of girls and marriage against their will invariably lead to tragedy.

“Tragically, despite the increased penalties for bride kidnapping, theft and forced marriage are still practiced by young people. Several years ago, the same tragedy happened to Burulai, whom an adult̆ man tried to kidnap in order to marry. The name Burulai has become a household name for Kyrgyzstanis. And, despite the fact that the criminal was convicted for his act, Burulai forever left her family and this world. There shouldn't be such cases.

Abduction and coercion into marriage against will should be strictly punished according to the law, and there should be no forgiveness for those who contribute to the kidnapping and forcible detention of people.

I will especially say about the work of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Law and order in our society should be paramount. And no one should forget about it.

The tragic incident with Aizada Kanatbekova, who was so cruelly dealt with by the kidnapper, should be the last in the history of bride kidnapping. In modern society, this should not be allowed. Everyone should be punished for such criminal acts.

I take the case of Aizada Kanatbekova under my personal control. This case must be brought to an end, the punishment will be inevitable,” he wrote and called on all citizens of Kyrgyzstan not to remain indifferent if they see attempts to kidnap brides.

President Zhaparov expressed condolences to the family of Aizada Kanatbekova.
