Kyrgyz president to take part in CSTO and SCO summits in Dushanbe

Bishkek, Sept. 14, 2021 . / Kabar / . On Sept. 15-17, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov will pay a working visit to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, during which he will take part in a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Kyrgyz President’s Office said Jenbek Kulubayev said.

During the regular meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council to be held under the chairmanship of Tajikistan on Sept. 16, heads of state will exchange views on current issues of international and regional security and the main results of the organization's activities during the intersessional period, and hear the information about the priorities in the upcoming Armenian chairmanship of the CSTO.

A final Declaration is expected to be signed, as well as 13 documents regulating the Organization's activities.

Further, a regular meeting of the CSTO Council of Heads of State will be held on Sept. 17 under the chairmanship of Tajikistan.

The agenda of the SCO summit includes such issues as the main results of the Organization's activities over 20 years, status and prospects of multilateral cooperation within the SCO, joint steps to overcome the pandemic, as well as topical topics of regional and international cooperation.

The meeting is expected to result in the adoption of an anniversary declaration marking the SCO's 20th anniversary, and the signing of more than 30 documents relating to the life of the organization, including the decision to appoint a new SCO Secretary General.

In connection with the current events in Afghanistan, as well as the need to take measures to maintain stability and security in the region, President Sadyr Zhaparov will attend the joint meeting of heads of delegations of the SCO and CSTO member states on the situation in Afghanistan, and there will also be bilateral meetings on the margins of the summits.
