Bishkek, March 27, 2021 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov took part in an event in the capital's Yntymak park in support of participation of the country’s women in local elections, his press service said.

The event was held under the motto "Developing Kyrgyzstan Together!" and was attended by Nurzhan Shildabekova, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic and Natalya Gherman, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia.

Speaking at the event the head of state noted the importance of the event, which symbolizes equal opportunities for citizens to participate in the political life of the country.

The president expressed confidence that the practical application of a 30% quota will lead to an increase in the number of women in village councils, and as a result, it is possible to ensure gender equality in decision-making at the local level.

Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that support for women at all levels of government is one of the key factors in the country's successful development.

He expressed readiness to support the desire of women to take care not only of the family, but also of the well-being of the regions, adding that they can really contribute to the socio-economic prosperity of the regions.

The head of state expressed the hope that the seedlings planted today will grow rapidly along with the rapid development of the country's regions.

Sadyr Zhaparov also thanked international partners, such as the UN, OSCE, the governments of Germany, Korea, Russia, USA, Turkey, Switzerland, Japan and others, for supporting the efforts of the Kyrgyz side to expand the inclusiveness of the electoral process.

According to the Kyrgyz Law, 30% of seats in the local elections of is guaranteed for women. Elections to local councils will be held on April 11 this year, 2943 mandates out of 7560 seats will be given to women.
