Bishkek, Feb. 9, 2022. / Kabar /. Relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan have become stronger over the past few years, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Kyrgyzstan Nikolay Udovichenko told.
“The coronavirus pandemic has shown that Russia is indeed an important strategic partner in various areas of relations. The past year was just proof of that, the ambassador said during the conference timed to coincide with the Day of the Diplomatic Worker of Russia, summing up the results of 2021 and spoke about the prospects for cooperation between the two states for 2022.
He said that the past year in terms of bilateral relations was not bad. “There is a constant political dialogue. Sadyr Zhaparov visited Russia three times. There is regular communication at different levels. In February, a visit of the speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament to Moscow is planned. Various negotiations will be held and contacts established,” Udovichenko said.
The ambassador added that trade relations were also good last year. The total trade turnover, according to the diplomat, amounted to USD 2.5 billion. “Export from Kyrgyzstan has grown. An interesting aspect is transfers from the Russian Federation: last year they amounted to about USD 2.6 billion. Separately, it is worth noting the role of the Russian language. We will continue to support the Russian language in Kyrgyzstan. For this, the preparation of agreements on the construction of 9 schools in the territory of the republic is being completed. We expect and see that the Kyrgyz leadership is supporting the Russian language. In terms of language and language policy, I can say that it is important, while developing something new, not to lose what has been achieved,” Udovichenko said during the conference.
He noted that Kyrgyzstan has a very strong position in terms of Russian language proficiency, and this helps to achieve significant progress.
As for the development of Eurasian integration, the ambassador noted that this year the chairmanship of the EAEU is in Kyrgyzstan. The ambassador emphasized that the president of the Kyrgyz Republic sent an appeal to the heads of the EAEU, where he outlined development priorities. Udovichenko noted that Russia shares these priorities.
“Regarding the CSTO, we are actively cooperating, the dialogue continues on an ongoing basis. A landmark event this year was the joint adoption of a decision on Kazakhstan, which made it possible to stop the brutal acts there. In the cross year, both sides tried to arrange various events, but the coronavirus made adjustments. Various events were planned in March, but what is postponed will not be lost,” Udovichenko added.
