Kyrgyz schools cancel traditional farewell ceremonies due to coronavirus fear

Bishkek, May 12, 2021 . / Kabar / . This year, school graduates will not be able to celebrate the Last Bell in the traditional format, all events will be held in the online format, the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan told Kabar News Agency.

Congratulatory programs will have to be prepared by education centers in oblasts of the republic, in the cities of Bishkek and Osh.

Airtime has already been allocated on the TV channels ElTR and Ilim-Bilim for May 25.

This year, the holding of graduation parties will also remain under the ban.

The last bell is a traditional ceremony in the schools of Russia and some other post-Soviet countries.

The celebration is carried out just after all the studies are finished, but before the final exams. The date usually falls on 25 May. The pupils that are about to leave the school don the classic school uniform or formal dress. A symbolic last school bell is rung, usually by a first-grader.
