Kyrgyz speaker and Kazakh FM discuss removing barriers at state border

Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Talant Mamytov on May 28, at a meeting with Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdy, who arrived in Bishkek for an official visit, discussed the issue of removing barriers at the state border of the two countries.

The press service of the parliament reported that the meeting also discussed topical issues of political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties, and exchanged views on the settlement of the conflict at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

Talent Mamytov informed the minister that thanks to the efforts of Kyrgyzstan to resolve the conflict exclusively by peaceful means and diplomatic means, it was possible to avoid further escalation of the conflict and possible numerous victims. He especially emphasized that the Kyrgyz side is determined to resolve interstate issues through dialogue and comply with all the agreements reached.

Discussing cooperation between the two fraternal countries, the speaker noted the traditionally high level of partnership and active dynamics, which cover almost all spheres of interaction.

“Kazakhstan is also one of the priority investors, since more than 1,500 joint ventures have been registered and operate in our country. In this regard, the government of Kyrgyzstan is taking all measures to protect the rights of investors, including those from Kazakhstan,” Mamytov stressed.

In addition, the sides noted with satisfaction the results of the state visit of President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov to Kazakhstan in March this year. The sides expressed confidence that the implementation of the agreements reached by the heads of the two states would allow to bring the Kyrgyz-Kazakh cooperation to a higher level.

At the same time, it was noted that the solution of certain important issues still remain unresolved, among them, the removal of barriers at the state border, bringing the trade turnover to USD 1 billion. Talant Mamytov drew the attention of the Kazakh side to the difficulties in the field of transit cargo transportation, in particular, heavy vehicles going to Russia, as well as transit rail cargo from China, following through Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan. The speaker expressed hope for an early solution of this issue by mutual efforts.

At the end of the meeting, Speaker Talant Mamytov expressed the hope that the agreements reached between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan at the highest level, the dynamically developing relations between the countries will find a worthy continuation.
