Bishkek, March 28 / Kabar /. The delegation of the Kyrgyz Parliament led by Speaker Chynybai Tursunbekov took part in the solemn plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS states-members dedicated to the 25th anniversary of this organization, the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh reported.
During the event, the information was presented on the achievements for the last 25 years. Also a film about the activities of the CIS IPA was demonstrated.
Speaking to the participants of the plenary session, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Chynybai Tursunbekov, recalled that exactly 25 years ago, on March 27, 1992 in Almaty, the heads of parliaments of seven former union republics signed the Agreement on the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. The same year, the first plenary meeting was held in Bishkek, where it was decided that the organization's headquarters will be located in St. Petersburg.
The Kyrgyz Speaker stressed that over the past quarter century, a lot of work has been done in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The IPA CIS played a special role in strengthening democratic processes and in preserving security in the CIS member states. "In addition, the Assembly played a huge role in bringing together, harmonizing and improving the legislation of our countries, and also managed to develop and adopt hundreds of model laws and recommendations. I think that the creation of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states was a timely and far-sighted decision. I would like to emphasize one more priority mission of the IPA CIS - this is the monitoring of elections in the Commonwealth states. The participation of independent observers and their objective evaluation in the electoral processes has become an important element of the democratic development of our countries," he said.
Within the framework of the solemn plenary session Chynybai Tursunbekov is awarded the jubilee medal "IPA CIS. 25 years" for strengthening inter-parliamentary relations.
