Bishkek, Oct. 27, 2022. /Kabar/. Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev met with Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva at the site of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) in the city of Samarkand (Uzbekistan).
According to the press service of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, during the meeting the sides discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation and inter-parliamentary interaction.
Shakiev stressed that the development of friendly and good-neighbourly relations with Uzbekistan is one of the priority areas of Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy.
“Thanks to the established close and trusting contacts, direct and regular dialogue at all levels, in recent years there has been a significant positive trend in the development of bilateral relations,” he said, dwelling on the positive developments in Kyrgyz-Uzbek cooperation, mutual visits and joint events.
In addition, in his speech, the speaker, referring to the issue of inter-parliamentary cooperation with Uzbekistan, outlined the importance of its further expansion. “In this context, I propose to intensify the holding of the next meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Jogorku Kenesh and the Oliy Majlis in the near future, as well as mutual visits of parliamentary delegations, deputy friendship groups of the two countries,” Shakiev noted.
In conclusion, he expressed the readiness of the Kyrgyz side to work together to create favorable conditions for the access of goods and services to the markets of the two countries in order to increase bilateral trade up to USD 2 billion.
In turn, the Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, congratulated Nurlanbek Shakiev on his election to the post of speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, wished him success in his responsible post and invited him to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan.
Narbayeva emphasized the high level of Kyrgyz-Uzbek cooperation based on similar cultural and spiritual values and the principles of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership, and also spoke about the first steps taken to implement the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project. “In particular, it is necessary, with the assistance of parliamentarians, to achieve new tangible results, first of all, within the framework of the implementation of bilateral agreements at the highest level, providing their legal basis. An important role in this direction should be played by the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Oliy Majlis and the Jogorku Kenesh,” she said.
