Bishkek, April 12, 2022 / Kabar /. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Talant Mamytov met on Monday with Margareta Cederfelt, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) and Swedish MP, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.
The meeting was attended by members of the Jogorku Kenesh and the Swedish Parliament.
During the meeting, development of cooperation within the OSCE and strengthening of relations between Kyrgyzstan and Sweden, in particular the inter-parliamentary cooperation was discussed.
The Kyrgyz Parliament speaker noted that Kyrgyzstan is interested in expanding political dialogue with the European Union, including Sweden, as well as strengthening comprehensive ties.
"This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. During this time we have passed a fruitful way of cooperation and we confirm our readiness for further interaction with you," Talant Mamytov said.
He also spoke about the work carried out within the UN and its Development Program.
"Last September 2021, speaking at the General Debate of the UN General Assembly, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov voiced an initiative to declare 2022 "International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development" and the period between 2023-2027 "Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions." Kyrgyzstan will initiate the resolution of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on declaring 2023-2027 the " Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions”. In this regard, we ask you to support the draft resolution, as well as to actively participate in these activities," the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh noted.
In her turn, President of the OSCE PA Margareta Cederfelt noted that OSCE and Sweden attach great importance to comprehensive cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.
She also touched on development of inter-parliamentary relations, activation of friendship groups and organization of bilateral visits, adding that all the proposals will be taken into consideration.
The meeting also discussed quotas allocated for women in parliament and, in general, issues of increasing women's political participation.
