Bishkek, Sept. 26, 2024 . / Kabar / . Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev received on Wednesday Ambassador of Great Britain to Kyrgyzstan Nicholas Bowler.
During the meeting, the issues of building political-economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between the countries were discussed, including an exchange of views on the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Nurlanbek Shakiev emphasized that bilateral cooperation between the UK and Kyrgyzstan has been actively developing in recent years. "Bilateral meetings are held, agreements reached are successfully implemented. Kyrgyzstan is interested in further expanding cooperation in areas such as mining, tourism and education. Especially we need to pay attention to the implementation of joint investment projects in the green economy and hydropower. We have good potential in these areas," he said.
Regarding the issue of Kyrgyzstanis working in the UK, the speaker noted that working conditions have recently improved for them. He also added that there are many young people in Kyrgyzstan who want to study in the UK.
"I hope that as ambassador you will pay special attention to the issue of increasing the quota for students from Kyrgyzstan," Shakiev said.
In addition, the speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament recalled that he had been to the UK on an official visit this year.
"The historic visit certainly contributed to the strengthening of relations. Therefore, in order to further develop the partnership, I would like to invite the Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to visit Kyrgyzstan," he said.
In turn, British Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nicholas Bowler noted that he would take into account the suggestions made and touched upon the current state of bilateral relations. He said that the possibility of employment of Kyrgyz citizens in the UK has been extended until 2029.
The ambassador also informed about the measures taken to provide schools in Kyrgyzstan with English language textbooks, adding that some British universities are ready to open their branches in Bishkek.
