Bishkek, Dec. 17, 2018. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz sportsmen won 415 medals at major international sports events in 2018, Deputy Director of the State Agency for Youth, Physical Culture and Sports Kanatbek Arpachiev told.
He said that according to the results of this year, the country has 103 gold medals, 114 silver and 198 bronze medals. Members of the national teams among PWDs won six awards, of which five are silver and one is bronze.
“At the beginning of the year, we held the Asian Championship in wrestling. For the first time in the history of the Kyrgyz Republic, Greco-Roman wrestlers won first place in the team competitions. In addition, the history of the country includes only two cases of Kyrgyz sportsmen taking first places at the Asian Games, and this year’s results are marked by three gold medals. This suggests that the sport in Kyrgyzstan is developing,” he concluded, recalling the national football team that made it to the Asian Cup 2019.
