Bishkek, May 8, 2020. /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov held phone conversation with his Tajik counterpart Sirodjidin Mukhriddin.
The phone talk took place in connection with an incident involving the use of firearms near the village of Kok-Tash village, Batken region of Batken Oblast (Kyrgyzstan), occured today, May 8 at 6:30 p.m.
According to the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, the two foreign ministers discussed the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border section, and noted the need to coordinate joint actions aimed at settling the incident.
The sides agreed on the importance of raising awareness among the local population in order to ease tensions along the border and prevent further escalation of the situation.
An agreement was reached to maintain direct operational link between the parties in order to stabilize the situation.
Conflict at Kyrgyz-Tajik state border was provoked by Tajik servicemen, who unexpectedly opened group fire (according to verified data) towards Kyrgyz border guards and citizens, the press service of the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan said.
At this time, Kyrgyzstan's border representatives for Batken Oblast are meeting with border representatives of Tajikistan's Isfara city to stabilize the situation at this section of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.
During the shootout, three servicemen from the Kyrgyz State Border Service of have been wounded to varying degrees, they are receiving the necessary medical care.
