Kyrgyz, Tajik leaders discuss measures to rapidly de-escalate situation on border

Bishkek, April 30, 2021 . / Kabar / . President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov had on Friday a phone conversation with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon.

A constructive dialogue was held in the spirit of good-neighborliness based on the principles of mutual respect for the territorial integrity of the countries, the press service of the Kyrgyz president said.

The presidents discussed measures to rapidly de-escalate the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border.

Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized the Kyrgyz side is willing to resolve interstate issues through dialogue and maintain a stable situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border.

He expressed confidence that the mutually beneficial cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan would continue to develop steadily and fruitfully on the basis of the traditional and centuries-old friendship and good neighborliness between the Kyrgyz and Tajik peoples.

The two leaders agreed to resolve the situation exclusively through peaceful means and to hold a face-to-face meeting in Dushanbe in the second half of May of this year.

Negotiations of the governmental delegations of the sides on the delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border will be held tomorrow, May 1, in Batken Oblast of Kyrgyzstan.
