Kyrgyz, UAE foreign ministers discuss topical issues of cooperation

Bishkek, March 3, 2022 . / Kabar / . Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of his Emirati counterpart.

The minister held talks with UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahayan, as well as UAE State Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmad Ali Al Sayegh on an extensive agenda of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, the press service of the Kyrgyz MFA said.

The Emirati side expressed gratitude to the Kyrgyz side for its active participation in the Expo 2020 in Dubai, and invited to take part in the closing ceremony of the international exhibition scheduled for March 27, 2022.

The foreign ministers stressed the need for speedy and practical implementation of bilateral agreements reached earlier, during the participation of Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov in Expo 2020 and following a meeting with UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Future Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi.

The sides also discussed the state and prospects of cooperation between the two countries in political, trade and economic, technological, investment, cultural and educational spheres, as well as mutual support within international organizations.

Taking into account the UAE's significant experience in implementing cardinal reforms in public administration, digitalization, introduction of advanced technologies and innovations, they stressed the importance of activating the joint working expert group on the Intergovernmental Accelerator, as well as the Kyrgyz-Emirati working expert group on transfer of experience, know-how and innovative technologies.

Kazakbaev noted the importance of the earliest possible establishment of a joint Kyrgyz-Emirati Investment Fund to support and implement projects in the areas of tourism, agriculture, energy, mining, mortgage lending for construction of affordable housing for the population of Kyrgyzstan. The sides also noted the need for further development of passenger and cargo air transportation between the two countries.

Informing about such important international initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of the UN as the adoption of resolutions "Nature knows no borders", "On the conservation of glaciers and biodiversity" and "On declaring 2022 the Year of Sustainable Mountain Development" and congratulating the Emirati side with the decision to hold the next Climate Summit COP 28 in the UAE, Kazakbaev suggested focusing joint efforts on the development of projects for the introduction of green economy and projects in the field of environmental protection and climate.

The FM of Kyrgyzstan asked his Emirati counterpart to expedite the ratification and entry into force of the previously signed "Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons between the Kyrgyz Republic and the UAE”.

Taking into account the significant number of Kyrgyzstanis working in the UAE, Kazakbaev also submitted a proposal to the Emirati side to introduce a visa-free regime for holders of official and civil passports of the Kyrgyz Republic.

He also emphasized the interest of the Kyrgyz side in using the UAE government's deep practical experience in the fight against corruption and international terrorism.

In addition, the foreign ministers of Kyrgyzstan and UAE discussed current international developments in the world, including in Ukraine.

Following the talks, they signed a protocol on political consultations and development of cooperation between the two countries' foreign ministries, which provides for intensification of cooperation in investment, bilateral trade, tourism, exchange of information and experience, consultations on the international agenda and trade and economic issues, as well as mutual support within international organizations.
