Bishkek, June 2, 2020. /Kabar/. A meeting of Kyrgyzstan's Deputy Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov with his Uzbek counterpart Abdulla Aripov took place Monday, June 1 at the Chechme checkpoint in Kadamjai region of Batken Oblast.
According to the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry's press service, the sides discussed the incident that occurred May 31, 2020 in Chechme area of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border and ways to stabilize the situation in border areas.
The heads of delegations noted that due to the well-coordinated work of local self-government bodies and law-enforcement bodies of the parties it was possible to localize the incident.
These bodies are charged to carry out explanatory work among the population in order to prevent conflicts.
An agreement has been reached to address emerging issues at the border in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on Confidence-Building Measures at the Borders, signed on Oct.6, 2017, and to intensify the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on the Delimitation and Demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek State Border.
The two deputy PMs have also agreed to hold regular sessions of Kyrgyz-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation and Council of Heads of Plenipotentiary Representatives of Border Regions of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in the near future.
After the talks, the heads of delegations visited the undescribed Chechme section, where the incident occurred the day before, and met with elders of border villages.
According to the press service of the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan, on May 31, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. in Kadamjai region’s Chechme village, a conflict occurred between residents of the village of Chashma of Uzbekistan. Residents threw stones at each other.
The conflict arose over a spring, when residents of two villages cleared the spring together. As a result, there was a verbal skirmish, the villagers began throwing stones at each other.
