Bishkek, May 27, 2020 / Kabar /. Kyrgyz Vice Prime Minister Aida Ismailova and World Bank Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Bolormaa Amgaabazar discussed the implementation of World Bank projects in the social sector via video conference, the government’s press service said.
The Kyrgyz vice prime minister briefed about the ongoing work to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in the republic and measures to further promote World Bank projects in the areas of health, social protection and education.
“Throughout the world, including in our country, the situation with coronavirus infection has clearly demonstrated the weaknesses of each of the areas. The social block is a complex and saturated site, which, in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, is acquiring even greater significance. The help, as important projects that the World Bank is providing in terms of supporting the social bloc, is very tangible,” she said.
During the meeting, Aida Ismailova noted that there are issues in the healthcare system that need to be addressed urgently, and one of them is the issue of purchasing drugs for people suffering from hepatitis.
“Today, together with the Association of Hepatitis Patients, active work is ongoing in this direction. We are interested in working closely with the World Bank representative on health and are ready to discuss this issue in more detail. In addition, the issue of employment is acute. One of the points of the Anti-Crisis Plan is the issue of providing unemployed citizens with temporary work. In the interests of our fellow citizens, it is urgent to use the funds provided by the World Bank as efficiently as possible,” the vice prime minister said.
In turn, Bolormaa Amgaabazar noted that the Kyrgyz Republic was able to do a lot of work to prevent a pandemic.
“The country was able to respond quickly and all the necessary measures were taken in a timely manner. Now the situation with COVID-19 is under control. Economic activity resumed in the republic. The ministry of health informs the population about the possibility of a second wave of the spread of infection and is taking all measures to prevent further mass spread. As you know, for over 25 years the World Bank has been implementing a number of important projects in the republic. I especially want to note the new project in the amount of $ 50 million in the field of education. In addition, it is planned to implement a project in the field of social protection of the population in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Amgaabazar.
Regarding the procurement of drugs for people suffering from hepatitis, the permanent representative of the World Bank noted that this issue needs to be worked out in a working manner.
Ismailova expressed gratitude to the World Bank for the assistance provided and readiness for further close cooperation for the good of the country.
